There are two types of stretching that can be incorporated in kid’s training for soccer; static and dynamic stretching.

Static stretching requires players to stretch their muscles to a point of resistance and hold for a given duration of time. Rebounding, rhythmic bouncing, and recurring motions are involved in dynamic stretching. It is generally considered as more dangerous and less effective than static stretching.

This article discusses some benefits of stretching that go a long way in making a good player great.

Stretching reduces injuries: Continuous stretching during the day and performed over a period of time may promote muscle growth that, consecutively, could reduce the risk of injury. Stretching also provides an effective way of enhancing the muscle size and strength.

Stretching influences flexibility: Stretching puts off the loss of flexibility. Nevertheless, stretching works best when performed for a greater length of time than for shorter periods of time.

Stretching for some minutes prior to any occasion is liable to improve flexibility. When it comes to soccer training tips, the best bet is to distribute a stretching program over a predetermined length of time to continuously increase the range of motion.

Stretching enhances performance: Player’s performance improves when stretching exercises are designed to be soccer specific.

Make sure that the kids enjoy stretching: Make stretching fun for the kids by including a variety of soccer drills into your session. Keep changing the type of warm up exercises that you perform before stretching. Try various activities like tag games, ball tag, and keep away.

Concentrate all your energy on stretching, experience and identify with each stretch while checking for soreness.

For almost all players, one single 15-30 minute stretch for each muscle group is sufficient but some may need longer stretches and more repetitions.

This is because when the temperature of muscles is higher than normal, tightness decreases and extensibility increases. Players who want to maintain or increase their flexibility can partly achieve this goal by stretching. It is better, safer, and more productive to do stretching exercises when the body temperature is higher than normal.

This is why some coaches tend to make their kids perform stretching exercises after a workout as well. Stretching for five minutes after practicing soccer skills prevents muscles from tightening too fast.

Usually, players who practice an active warm-up ahead of stretching get a superior range of motion than those kids who just stretch. So if injury prevention is your aim, stop stretching before exercise and increase the warm up time.

I again reiterate that the most important of all soccer training tips is to remember that hurried stretching does not help kids become flexible, gets monotonous and pointless, so let them take their own time to warm up before stretching. Before planning your next training session, set some goals for the team. Ascertain what you specifically wish to achieve from the training session and do everything required to get that done.

Introduce new, fun, and innovative soccer drills in your training sessions to add variety. It will break the monotony of doing the same drills day in and day out. Once players start enjoying their practice sessions, you’ll notice that their performance will improve consistently.

Let’s take an example; holding one leg in front of you and keeping it as high as you can. Doing this your hamstring is stretched and as the hip flexors and quadriceps grip your leg up.

Static passive: It’s the skill of using the body weight or some external force to hold a stretch. For instance; hold your leg out in front of you and rest it on a chair.

Let’s now move on to the next step in following soccer training tips. It requires you to check that kids are wearing an appropriate gear, depending on the weather conditions.

Training for soccer needs to be supported with a fitness program that will help the areas where your team needs most help. One should keep the following factors in mind while designing such a training program.

Kid’s age: There is a direct connection between decrease in the flexibility of soft tissues and the reduced range of movement, as one grows older, notwithstanding the gender. However, decrease in flexibility can be significantly slowed down if we keep active.

Gender: Girls show greater movement, no matter what their age.

Activity: When it comes to displaying soccer skills, active individuals demonstrate a greater range of movement than inactive individuals.

Injury: Injuries also hamper the range of motion in a joint.

Pain: With an increase in pain, flexibility decreases resulting in muscle spasms. Nonetheless, flexibility in kids is not hampered by strength training unless the exercises are done correctly and in full range of motion.

Genetics: A player’s genetics also have an effect on the amount of flexibility that his or her body possesses.

By teaching your players some important tips and techniques, you can help them better their performance. These are as follows;

Coach your kids to keep moving the ball with one or two touches: It is also called inter-passing in case of a team setting. They should play the ball with speed and make crisp solid passes, whether it is a 3-meter or 20 meter pass.

Play the ball and move about: Playing and moving envelops the basic idea behind making runs. But the important thing to keep in mind is to make these runs dangerous leading to goal scoring opportunities or opening up space for a team-mate.

The idea of teaching soccer skills to players is to develop their ability to create goal scoring opportunities. You can work well by setting up the defender here. Teach your players to close in the defender towards them, as if he or she is going to be able to catch the ball, then give it and go, advance into the open space to receive or return the pass.

Your players should be taught to change their pace once they’ve made a move to beat their opponent. Teach your kids to swiftly attack and attempt to keep moving the ball as fast as they can. Whenever they get the opportunity to break, they should get even with a couple of accurate passes.

Teach your kids to retain the ball close to their feet when trying to control the ball: As one of the important soccer training tips, they should keep their head up and keep an eye on other player’s movements on the field. They should try to touch the ball with every step when dribbling the ball. This has the effect of having close control over the ball and improving a player’s ability to take away the ball from defenders.

Get the cross in: During the first part of the game, keep an eye on the goalkeeper and take shots on the goal. If the player is going to create a space and run between them, they should let the other team members know. This type of communication is critical for the development of great players.

When training for soccer, teach players to aim for the area between the 6 and 18 yard boxes. This will encourage the goalkeeper to come out in an effort to save the ball. This will have the effect of making the open and unguarded.

Keep a watch on the ball: Watch the movement of all players on the field, all the time. Condition your players such that they don’t lose their way from the team’s strategy for the day.

Personality: Experience is an effective tool but it’s not nearly as important as personality. A coach’s overall personality determines his or her coaching success, whether the end-result is a fun game without any physical and mental pressures or the creation of a consistently strong team.

Knowledge of the game: It’s important for the coach to learn new tips and techniques in soccer. Understanding of the game’s rules, strategies, and tactics is a basic prerequisite for gaining player’s respect.

Enthusiasm and Interest: During a soccer training program, take the role of a salesperson. Once interest in the session is developed, motivating players becomes fairly easy. It’s also crucial to be open to a player’s needs with respect to the aims of the team, irrespective of their age. If the kids freely ask questions, their interest in the game is sustained.

Persistence and Patience: it is suicidal to overlook the inability of the player to perform soccer drills. A player does not want to learn anything new when he or she does not perform well. Setting unrealistic objectives leads to frustration in players. As such, be patient and persevere as the players try to stay inspired moving from one session to another.

Ability to manage priorities: Work out a step-by-step technique of learning that caters to the requirements of all  the players in the team. At the time of soccer coaching, the players should have adequate time to practice what they have learnt in the sessions. Only when each player has become an expert in a certain skill, teach the new one.

Single-mindedness: A coach must be specifically interested in the skills and social and moral behaviour of each player. If you show sensitivity to their needs and are honest with them, you will win their hearts. To become a great player, strength of character in victory as well as in defeat lays foundation for a player’s success.

Understand the learning process: A clear understanding of the learning process will help in better player and team development. Give confidence to the players to be enthusiastic in exercises that help them change their thinking and acting.

Encourage the players to learn soccer skills through participation, demonstration, and guidance. The learning process in complete only when the players are able to utilize what’s been taught and shown to them. Learning needs experience and not just teaching.

Imagination: Create situations that challenge the player’s imaginations, bring them pleasure in performing tasks, and serve important game drills. Inspire the players to make their sessions enjoyable and interesting.
